My Story…

This year, I’m running my first half marathon to raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Canada in honor of my Nanny. She was funny, strong, and a true go-getter—someone who never let anything slow her down.

One of my most special memories of her is from a winter day, deep into her treatment. Though she was frail at the time, she bundled herself up and made it out to one of my hockey games. I can still hear her voice in the stands yelling, “Get her, Kayla!” For those who knew her, she always had advice for hockey players—whether they wanted it or not! Her drive, humor, and resiliency were admired by everyone.

She battled ovarian cancer for nine years with strength, grace, and an unwavering spirit. Sadly, her story is just one of so many of the strong, loved women touched by this terrible disease. That’s why I want to honor her legacy by raising funds for research, awareness and support for women affected by ovarian cancer.
