My Story…
I joined ElderDog's Vancity Pawd just over a year ago, and have been walking an awesome dog a couple mornings a week ever since. I'm not a fan of running, but I'm doing this 5k to raise awareness and money for ElderDog Canada. It's a 100% volunteer-run organization that helps older adults with dog care and well-being. ElderDog also helps with fostering and re-homing if the humans are forced to move or can no longer provide care to their dog.
The process of re-homing a dog is incredibly painful for both humans and dogs. It's also very difficult to find a suitable home, with most rescues and shelters being at capacity. This organization helps keep dogs in the home longer and provides support for if/when a re-homing is needed. That's what motivated me to get involved. It's a great cause with great people involved.
If you can't donate, consider getting involved and volunteering or spreading the word about ElderDog to other potential volunteers. Who doesn't love spending time with dogs and helping elders?
Description
Help us keep love in the home! Run, walk or wheel for ElderDog and help raise money to cover the costs of our emergency foster program including food, supplies and veterinary care. It will also help ElderDog cover veterinary expenses for ElderDog clients for whom finances are a barrier. We honour and preserve the human-canine bond and all of its social and emotional benefits.
