What is NF and Why Does Your Support Matter?

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a group of genetic conditions that cause tumours to grow on nerves throughout the body. These tumours can appear anywhere and affect people in many different ways—from blindness, deafness, and chronic pain to learning challenges, disfigurement, and even cancer. Anyone can be born with NF. It affects people of all races, genders, and ethnicities.

How Common is NF?
NF is one of the most common genetic neurological conditions, affecting about 1 in every 2,000 births—that’s around 4 million people worldwide.

Who We Are: Tumour Foundation of BC
Since 1984, the Tumour Foundation of BC has been the leading voice for the NF community in Canada. We are a small but passionate charity making a big impact through:

  • Advocacy for better care and treatment
  • Awareness and education for the public and healthcare providers
  • Peer support groups and 1:1 outreach
  • An annual NF symposium and trusted patient resources
  • Youth scholarships

Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of individuals affected by NF. Your donation doesn’t just help us stay open—it helps an entire community feel seen, supported, and hopeful for a better future.
