I joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2019 as a reservist infantryman with the Calgary Highlanders. I was soon compelled to begin running as a means to improve mental and physical fitness. Despite being on a 20 year hiatus from running since high school, it started to become enjoyable and I’ve participated in the Canada Army Run every year since. This event raises funds for Support Our Troops and Soldier On, which are two important charities that provide valuable assistance to armed forces members, veterans, and their families. In 2024, I committed to running in-person in Ottawa. Attending that event with a fellow Calgary Highlander further reinforced for me the importance of these charitable organizations. At the event, armed forces members and veterans shared their experiences with these charities and the positive impact they’ve had on their lives. In addition, these members also walked, ran, or rucked whatever distance they were able to. This is the reason why I continue to support the Canada Army Run with its fundraising efforts and I hope that you can show your support as well.
