My Story…
On Sunday, May 25, I’ll be participating the SudburyROCK Half Marathon in support of the HSN Foundation.
Health Sciences North has played a pivotal role in my life over the past two years and it’s the reason I’m here today.
For me, Sunday's event is more than a run, and more than just raising money. I’m running because I can. Because in the midst of so much bad luck, I somehow got lucky.
My cancer was found late but early enough. Treatment was horrible but I responded & tolerated it. I got sick but I bounced back. I needed an ileostomy but it gave me back freedoms I lost to cancer.
There were many moments of grief, anger, and overwhelming self-pity. And as much as those feelings still linger, I am also here.
And that feels like a gift I can’t take for granted. It would be a dishonour not to fully live, knowing how lucky I am to have that chance.
So I’m raising money for the HSN Foundation, to give back to a foundation that's done so much for me and my family.
I am running for those still fighting.
I am running for those who can’t.
I am running for every version of me that got me to where I am today.
I am running - because I still can.
*Please note that the term 'running' has been used broadly and may encompass walking, breaks, light jogging & frolicking.*
