My Story…
In September 2024, I was diagnosed with Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) in my left arm, neck, and lungs. This surprise discovery of multiple blood clots led to three major emergency surgeries in Mexico, including the removal of my top left rib, a metal stent insertion in my subclavian vein, a further diagnosis of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, and lasting peripheral nerve damage in my left limb. A fourth 'nerve transfer' surgery will take place in June 2025 in Edmonton, Canada, to help me potentially regain the use of my left arm/hand. Blood thinners for life to help prevent future DVTs in my legs and upper body are now a way of life. This however is not a cure. Despite countless medical tests and specialist visits, the root cause of the DVTs is unknown.
I am grateful for everything that has happened on this journey, including the exceptional care afforded to me by Mexican and Canadian specialists, surgeons, doctors, and nurses. This series of events has led me down a transformational life journey which is still unfolding. It has helped me become closer to my faith, reset my life goals, and dedicate my God given talents to helping those in need. I am 54 years old and work as an Executive Language And Life Coach/Entrepreneur with business professionals worldwide. My enthusiasm for remaining highly active as I age is very important; Toronto will mark my 36th race.
On this journey, I remain committed to using my passion for marathon running to help raise money and awareness for reputable causes. Therefore, it seems fitting to partner with and promote Thrombosis Canada, whose core values include improving the health-care-related quality of life for Canadians through the prevention and treatment of thrombotic vascular disease.
I am asking for your support at this year's TCS Toronto Marathon (October 18-19, 2025). Let's raise some money together to help bring awareness and support to nearly 50,000 Canadians and countless others worldwide. Please follow the links below to make a tax-deductible donation.
Thank you for all your love and support.
