My Story…
This year, I'm fundraising in honour and memory of Gary - a sweet boy who found himself dumped on Toronto's streets and struggled on his own until lovely Rosary trapped him and he came to me for assessment. Gary had some trouble letting down his guard indoors - he clearly had lived in a house before, but was scared of being approached by people. Sadly we don't know what experiences he had before and during his time on the street. :( But he gradually realized he was safe, and blossomed into a confident and loving cat. His chronic skin issues went away, and he grew a magnificent fluffy coat of fur. Gary had ongoing gastrointestinal issues though, and eventually he was diagnosed with both allergies and diabetes. We got his health conditions control, and Gary moved to foster mom Galit to live the life of love and luxury that he deserved - and he did for many months.
But then sweet Gary started losing weight and his appetite and showing signs he was unwell. The internal medicine specialist tried to do a scope of Gary's intestines, and could not get the instrument past a certain point - while biopsies could not find his cancer, it's almost certain that an intestinal cancer caused his blockage. Poor Gary declined very quickly after that, and said goodbye at home with both of his foster moms reminding him of how loved he was.
We couldn't stop Gary's cancer, but we were able to ensure that he had almost a year of love, safety, comfort, company, food, and medical care, and that he didn't have to suffer through a painful decline, vulnerable and alone on the streets. This is what ACR does, for the abandoned and forgotten cats struggling to survive on Toronto's streets.
Please help us help more cats like Gary! I am running a half-marathon to raise money for ACR, and starting from scratch since I haven't run in almost a year due to an injury. Helping cats like Gary is worth the effort though, and I hope you will join me with a generous donation to help street cats in need. ACR is a 100% volunteer organization, so almost every dollar we raise goes toward medical care for the cats we help. And our incredibly generous matching donor James is matching donations again this year, so your donation will go twice as far!
Thank you for your support! <3
