My Story…
Hello friends, family, and internet pals! 🤍🐈⬛
I'm once more participating in the Toronto waterfront (virtual) 5k to fundraise for Annex Cat Rescue, the non-profit cat rescue I volunteer with.
My volunteering experience
I've been involved with ACR for half of my ~10 years in cat rescue, and can confidently say they're one of the best! I hear this often from cat owners, too.
While overseas, I'm assisting ACR in email communications, and I'm consistently blown away by their care and commitment. It's much more than I knew when just a foster.
Fundraising targets
Usually, I raise ~$1,000 for the yearly TCS campaign. This year's fundraising target is a modest $375, collectively set.
To put this into context, as many pet owners will know:
- One veterinary consultation is often $80-$150
- Annual exams and emergency consultations can be +$200
- A spay or neuter is often $200-$400
- More complex medical procedures can be +$1000
Vets are for-profit businesses, and while ACR has many charity partner vets in the city, vet care (the crux of rescue) remains costly!
Why donate?
ACR is 100% volunteer based and relies on homes like mine to intake stray cats, foster them while they get medical care and become socialized, and eventually help them find their loving forever homes.
ACR volunteers also take care of cat colonies around the city, making sure even feral cats have food, warmth, and medical care, as well as performing "trap neuter release" to prevent more homeless kittens.
With your help, ACR can pay the vet fees and other expenses necessary for these endeavours. As the weather turns, this work is critical to preventing cats from freezing to death in frigid Canadian winters.
In 2022, lack of donations made it impossible for ACR to intake any new cats in winter months. I'm really grateful to those who helped with a monetary contribution through my 2023 and 2024 campaigns, and hope you'll consider making a contribution in 2025!
