My Story…

I'm running my first 5K in eight years - in honour of Coco and Penny, and in support of Annex Cat Rescue!

Coco - May 11, 2009-September 11, 2024

Those of you who know me know that one year ago, I lost my best friend Coco. It's been a hard loss, but I never would've had this special connection had this former homeless kitten being saved through another local rescue.

Always up for more food, Coco was my sweet, chatty shadow for 10 years - always always attuned to where I was, and reaching out for snuggles.

Giving back to cats like her through Annex Cat Rescue with the love and feline caregiving know-how I gained from Coco has been a rewarding tribute to our bond and time together, and a healing balm to my spirit.

This is Penny, my first ACR foster cat!

Likely an abandoned stray, Penny was rescued in a Lawrence Heights area colony last October after having her second litter. She was spayed, had most of her teeth extracted due to marked dental disease, and endured a nasty ear infection that knocked her down for months.

She came to live with me in April and I've since watched her blossom throughout the summer. She's still easily spooked, sassy, and spicy, with ongoing health challenges we're working through, but she's becoming increasingly affectionate. She loves nothing more than R&R, pets, and lately - nestling in a pillow fort. The good life indeed!

"Cat Adoption With A Difference"

Founded by downtown Toronto neighbours 28 years ago, Annex Cat Rescue is 100% volunteer-run. They work tirelessly to help the homeless cats across the city - from colony management; urgent medical care access and TNR, to socializing, fostering, and adopting out kitties.

How You Can Help

ACR's strength comes from our network of volunteers and our work is only possible due to the generosity of our donors and supporters. ACR relies exclusively on donations. We have a matching donor again this year, so your generosity will go twice as far!

Your donation helps cats like Coco and Penny get the medical care, safe homes, and second chances they deserve.

Thank you for supporting Annex Cat Rescue, me, and the most vulnerable cats in our city.
