Our story…

On October 19th, Austin Kean, Leah Kumagai, and Abel Muñiz are taking on the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in memory of James Kean, who passed away from ALS last year. What started as a marathon challenge quickly grew into something more meaningful—a way to carry James’s spirit forward, raise awareness, and support everyone impacted by ALS.

Training for a marathon has plenty of highs and lows. There are mornings when the runs feel effortless, and others when every step is a grind. But through it all, we remind ourselves that we’re lucky to be able to run. James, like so many others with ALS, lost the ability to walk and move freely—something most of us take for granted. That reminder keeps us going when it gets tough.

For us, this race is about more than just crossing a finish line. It’s about honoring James, celebrating his strength, and contributing to a future with better care, more research, and hopefully one day, a cure.
