My Story

In January of 2022 at just 4 years old Benjamin was diagnosed with a rare disease and form of cancer called LCH (Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis). After undergoing 25 rounds of treatment we received the news we'd be longing for: Benjamin was cancer-free. In January of 2024 he had his one year scans and they confirmed that he continued to be in a state of remission. His two year scans are fast-approaching and we have every reason to hope that they will prove NED (No Evidence of Disease).

Shortly after his diagnosis my aunt surprised Benjamin with a very special superhero cape that she'd made. For 3+ years running he's worn it to every treatment, surgery, scan and appointment.

They say, "not all superheroes wear capes", but ours does. And on race day, in honour of his fight, so do many of his biggest supporters. On May 11th, you'll undoubtedly see a flurry of blue Benjamin the Brave replica capes flying being people who understand just how much Campfire Circle has meant to our family throughout our oncology journey.

Benjamin is truly an inspiring little superhero and childhood cancer advocate. He treats every hospital visit like an adventure, looks forward to visiting with the staff and volunteers he's come to know so well and is best known for being happy, positive, kind, affectionate, enthusiastic, inclusive, his sense of humour, bright smile and contagious laugh. We're beyond grateful to Campfire Circle for their role in helping to ensure our little boy continues to be such a bright light and for giving our family opportunties to connect and re-fuel on hope, strength and optimism.
