My Story

In June 2022, when Will was only 7 days old, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He immediately started 5 rounds of chemotherapy as an inpatient at SickKids between June 2022 and January 2023. It is hard to explain how difficult a time this was for our family. We had to adjust to being new parents and parents of a child with cancer at the same time. Thankfully, Will's treatment was successful and he has been in remission for over 2 years now.

Throughout his treatment and in the years since, Campfire Circle has been there to help us create happy memories as a family. Rainbow Lake (where Campfire Circle holds its family camp) is one of the happiest places on earth. From the moment we drive onto the property until the moment we leave, everyone at Campfire Circle brings so much energy and joy to camp. Last summer, we were delighted to see the older campers take Will, who was only 2 years old at the time, under their wing and include him in their play. As parents, we also enjoyed some moments alone while the counsellors would watch Will. Going to camp has become a highlight of our summer.

This summer, we are excited to also be bringing our daughter, Molly, who was born in October 2024, and introduce her to the joys of camp.

It is emotional for us to see the city come together in May each year to fundraise for Campfire Circle and the families it supports. It is an organization that means the world to us and we are so grateful for your support.
