My Story
For the second year in a row, I will be running a 10k in support of Campfire Circle, an Ontario-based organization that facilitates summer camps for children with cancer. Campfire Circle's work means that kids can experience the joys and freedom of summer camp, while having their medical needs taken care of.
From building backyard treehouses (that were definitely not up to code) to trekking up Bright Angel Trail; from racing (and losing) against my sister on the trails at St Ed’s, to car camping at Balsam Lake, spending time outdoors has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a kid, some of my best summer memories took place in the backdrop of Camp River Ranch and Camp Orkila in Washington State. To this day, I firmly believe that a little fresh air and sunshine can be transformative.
And I imagine that the camp experience — being outdoors, singing songs, and making friends — would be even more transformative for a kid going through cancer treatment. Last year, I was able to raise over $1,200 thanks for your generosity, enough to cover almost an entire weekend of camp! But I would love to surpass that, so my goal for this year is to raise $1,500 in support of Campfire Circle.
