Operation Smile Canada

Since 1982, Operation Smile has been transforming the lives of children born with cleft conditions in more than 30 low- and middle-income countries where we work. We provide life-changing cleft surgeries and comprehensive care programs including nutritional support, oral health, psychosocial support, and speech therapy.  

This support starts right here in Canada with the generosity of Canadian partners and medical volunteers across the country.  

Cleft lip and palate are serious health conditions that impact children and their families worldwide. In Canada, they’re frequently treated early in life, but in the low- and middle-income countries where we work, too many individuals born with cleft conditions lack access to safe, effective and timely healthcare. It’s estimated that, every 3 minutes, a child is born with a cleft condition — that’s about 1 in every 500 to 750 births.
