My Story…
As a distance runner and long-time New England resident, participating in the annual Mount Washington Road Race has been a bucket list goal for me. In 2022, I was thrilled to secure one of the 1,300 coveted spots in this challenging 7.6-mile race, which begins at Pinkham Notch and climbs to the 6,288-foot summit of Mount Washington, with an average grade of 11.5%.
Known for its steep inclines, high winds, and unpredictable weather, the race presents unique challenges. Unfortunately, in 2022, severe weather forced organizers to shorten the race to the halfway point for only the second time in its history. Conditions at the summit included 30°F temperatures, 60-70 mph sustained winds with 100 mph gusts, sleet, snow, and a wind chill of 0-10°F, making it unsafe to continue.
Despite having a sticker on my vehicle proclaiming, “The Driver of This Car Ran Mt. Washington” (courtesy of my son, Jeb), I won’t feel satisfied until I complete the full course.
That’s why I’m excited to announce my registration for the 2025 Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race! I’m also fundraising for Coos County Family Health Services (CCFHS), an organization providing vital health and social services to children and adults in New Hampshire. Their programs include primary care, pediatrics, women’s health, podiatry, behavioral health, oral health, and support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
CCFHS relies on donations to continue their critical work, and I would greatly appreciate any support you can provide.
