Hello Friends and Family! We will be walking/running together to create lasting connections and help amplify the need for more research, awareness, connection and support for Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO)!

Here is a little about our journey:

Shortly after Loïc's second birthday, we noticed episodes of significant swelling in his knees. He'd be in pain and have difficulty walking for 2-3 days, and then the swelling would disappear, only to return 3-4 weeks later. This went on for months. After several visits to our family doctor/the emergency, xrays and bloodwork, we were referred to CHEO’s rheumatology department. Loïc was diagnosed with JIA a year after we noticed his first flare up.

Since then, we've tried NSAIDS, cortisol injections and dietary changes, with no significant improvements to his inflammation. However, since starting weekly methotrexate injections in October, Loïc is in medicated remission! Injection day remains our least favorite day of the week, but what a relief knowing that his treatment plan is working!

The past two and a half years has been such a rollercoaster for all of us, but we are so grateful for our care team at CHEO! Their patience, guidance and support has made all the difference.
