My Story…

As the wife of a veteran, I understand firsthand how challenging it can be for friends and family members of veterans. They come home to you, but are they really home? You are spending time with them, but are they really mentally present with you? You hang out with friends and family, but they look around like people are strangers. Simple things that you can laugh off, they can’t seem to let go. They are disconnected from their life and there is a gap that never seems to be bridged. You notice all the signs of PTSD, but they don’t see it, that’s not something they could ever have.

When my husband came home from his service, he struggled to find a place to fit in, no one seemed to understand him.  He needed an outlet for his anger, fear, and just overall adjustment back into civilian life; he couldn’t find that anywhere.  He didn’t want to talk to a counselor because there was nothing wrong with him, all the PTSD signs that were so obvious to me he couldn’t see.  He struggled with this for years until he found a community that served as his outlet and the people his therapists.  In this community he found that brotherhood he had been searching for since he left the service, and the peace that escaped him.  The Garrison Speed Shop Inc is not just a place to go to learn a trade or work on your motorcycle, it offers a community that has been lost, a brotherhood that is irreplaceable, and a sense of peace that is more healing than any therapist.

I’m excited to be running the Falmouth Road Race in support of The Garrison Speed Shop Inc. This incredible organization is dedicated to enhancing the lives of Veterans and First Responders through a blend of hands-on workshops and collaborative projects, in addition to offering a supportive space for skill enhancement, mental wellness, and building camaraderie. The Garrison Speed Shop Inc is a pillar of support focusing on mental wellness that is intertwined with their initiatives. By promoting mental health awareness and providing a nurturing environment, they facilitate healing, connection, and empowerment for those who have served.

By supporting this cause, we’re helping fund much needed support to our Veterans and First Responders.  We are helping them to obtain free classes and clinics, but more importantly, allowing them to find a community, a sense of brotherhood, and bridge the gap to mental health awareness.  Running this race is a small but meaningful way I can contribute to their mission. Your support will inspire me to push through every mile, knowing that together we are supporting these amazing men and women.  Whether you’re donating $5 or $500, your contribution matters and brings us one step closer to bridging the gap in mental wellness for the true heroes of our country.

Thank you for your generosity, together we can make a difference!
