Why this is important to me!
I have holes in my family that will never be filled, because cancer took my loved ones way too young.
My uncle Dennis died of colon cancer when he was just 34 years old. He left behind twins that were just 3 years old. He was my father's best friend and his business partner and my Dad misses him to this day.
My first cousin Melissa died of Leiomyosarcoma, a very rare form of muscle cancer, when she was just 42. She was an athlete, smart, beautiful and had 2 children ages 2 and 4. Her husband is a single father, raising children she will never see grow up.
My husband lost his first cousin Barbara to bone cancer when she was just 39. She fought so hard! She was the nicest and kindest person who the family misses every day. She had 2 children, ages 5 and 10.
If DetecTogether had been around for my family members, maybe they would have survived.
Please support my run!
I am running this race to raise awareness, to help DetecTogether educate young people to know the signs that something is not right, to not be afraid to speak up and get the help they need. I don't want other families to have to endure the pain we endure, to see the gaps in our families where our loved ones used to be.
I know first hand how this feels, both through these losses and my own battle with cancer 9 years ago. I had just turned 50, so I had cancer in my 40s, too.
Let's do this!
Description
The worst cancer diagnosis is a late one. That's why support for DetecTogether is so crucial. They teach people how to detect cancer early when it’s most treatable and survivable.
40% of the population will face a cancer diagnosis. One of the most important factors in surviving cancer is the stage at which it is first detected. Early detection makes all the difference.
DetecTogether provides a simple, powerful strategy for detecting cancer early. They educate in schools, present to community groups, and reach out to those at high risk, such as firefighters, empowering people to achieve better healthcare overall.
Their life-saving presentations and information are delivered at no cost, thanks to the kindness and generosity of donors.
Consider supporting this cause. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against cancer.
