My Story…
My Story: Running for Answers, Hope, and Tomorrow
Four years ago, I began running the Falmouth Road Race not just for the challenge, but for a cause that changed our family's life forever. I'm running to support The Genesis Foundation for Children, an organization that provides life-changing care for children with rare diseases and genetic disorders.
A Personal Journey
Our daughter Parker was born with a rare genetic disorder, and like so many families facing similar challenges, we felt lost and overwhelmed. The questions were endless: What exactly was wrong? How could we help her? What did this mean for our family's future?
That's when we discovered The Genesis Foundation for Children and their incredible Feingold Model of Coordinated Care. Unlike traditional medical care that can feel rushed and fragmented, the Foundation's approach treats the whole child and the whole family. Their team didn't just give us a diagnosis—they gave us understanding, hope, and a path forward.
The Foundation's genetic counselors and specialists took the time to truly listen to our concerns and answer our countless questions. They helped us understand our daughter's condition and connected us with the right resources and therapies. Most importantly, they helped us navigate the complex world of rare genetic disorders with compassion and expertise.
Planning for the Future
When we were considering having another child, The Genesis Foundation was there again. Their genetic counseling services helped us understand the risks and make informed decisions about our son's future. Thanks to their guidance and support, we were able to take steps to prevent him from having the same syndrome as his sister.
Why The Genesis Foundation Matters
Since 1982, The Genesis Foundation for Children has been providing hope to families like ours. They fund programs and services that go far beyond traditional medical care:
Comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for children with rare diseases and genetic disorders
Genetic counseling services that help families understand their conditions and plan for the future
Coordinated care that treats the whole patient and family, not just the diagnosis
Therapeutic programs that help children with special needs participate in arts and recreational activities
Support services that address the social and emotional needs of families
Every mile I run in the Falmouth Road Race represents a family like ours who found answers, support, and hope through The Genesis Foundation. With over 60,000 children and families served across Massachusetts and New England, they're making a real difference in the lives of those facing rare genetic conditions.
