OUR FINISH LINE SAYS ALS DONE!

I'll never forget when I first learned that another adult leader in our Scout Troop had been diagnosed with ALS. Rick was so active! He made a plan to hike the AT from the Mass/VT border to the terminus on Mt. Katahdin and fundraise for ALS One. He had always dreamed of through-hiking the AT when he retired and scrambled to to do a section while he could.  By the time the hike rolled around that summer he could only do small sections with a neck brace, leg braces, and could no longer speak.  There were always friends backpacking with him. I was part of the Troop 507 contingent for a weekend in Maine and I will always treasure those memories. We hiked, we laughed, we danced to music at the campsite.  When he fell down he got back up. He was determined to make those most of whatever time he had left. We didn't realize it would be less than a year after that backpacking trip. So I continue the journey: fundraising for ALS One, backpacking, running,  being Committee Chair for Troop 507, the job I took over from Rick. And I hope you'll help us keep his memory alive and find a way to defeat ALS. Thank you 💙💚
