Why I'm running for Mothers' Milk Bank Northeast
Mothers' Milk Bank Northeast is a nonprofit milk bank providing pasteurized donor human milk to fragile babies throughout the Northeast. Human milk is the optimal foundation for an infant's nutrition, immunological protection, and biological framework. All babies should have access to human milk, and in instances where they are not able to receive their own mother's milk, donor milk plays a crucial role in their ability to survive and thrive.
I fell in love with breastfeeding and developed a passion for lactation after having my first of two sons in 2018. I decided that the field of lactation was where I was meant to be and began pursuing the path to become a lactation consultant. I became a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) in 2021, an Advanced Lactation Counselor (ALC) in 2024, and will sit for the IBLCE exam to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) this September. I care deeply about maternal health and providing mothers/breastfeeding families with accessible and quality lactation support to help them achieve their infant feeding goals. I can think of no better way to bring awareness and support to the Mothers' Milkbank Northeast than to combine my two great passions of lactation and running by running with the MMBNE team at the 2025 ASICS Falmouth Road Race.
Please join me in supporting them by donating to this truly amazing organization. You will truly be saving a life--or lives--and giving these tiny humans the best possible chance at a healthy, strong life.
Description
Funds raised for Mothers' Milk Bank Northeast help to provide 1.5 million feedings annually for fragile infants.
“TyQuell weighed just 1 lb., 11 oz when he was born – a number so tiny it was terrifying. He spent eight months and five days fighting for his life in that NICU. During those first few weeks (when I avoided finishing the nursery because I didn’t know if he’d be coming home) he was fortunate enough to receive donor milk . . . Doctors told me it would be beneficial, that it would help him grow. Knowing my son had the nutrition he needed gave me comfort. I was so thankful for that gift and still am.” ~ Sherita, TyQuell’s Mom
