Why I'm running in support of AAFA New England
My Story:
For those of you who know me, and those who don’t.
This is my Fourth Consecutive year running for team AAFANE! I couldn’t be more honored or proud to have the opportunity to represent this truly caring non-profit organization again. <3
I bet you didn’t know that more than 100 million people across the United States are affected by various types of allergies each year (that’s 1 in every 5 people). And to some of us, this can cause a severe life threatening reaction.
Over the last decade we have seen an 18% increase in the immune system overreacting to harmless substances: affecting 1 in every 50 Americans with Anaphylactic responses.
So why do I do this every year?!
Every Year I commit myself to running the “Falmouth Road Race” for this organization the Asthma And Allergy Foundation of America, New England chapter.
I Do This: To set a good example to my kids. To be a good role model. To show that hard work and perseverance pays off (even if I don’t come in first…ha ha! Or….if I finish last).
to remind those around me to advocate for the important things in life. To advocate for those in need.
In the hopes of contributing to a better future and an effort to help save lives.
I Do this to remind myself that time moves quickly, (for those who have and/or will suffer from an anaphylactic attack) because it does; and even though while running this 10k it doesn’t feel like it, it is always inevitably over in the blink of an eye.
I Do this to restore my faith in humanity. There is not enough kindness, compassion, love and support in the world today. But seeing everyone (13- 15,000 runners)- there to support a non-profit, always truly moves me.
And… I Do this to represent my Family Members, My Daughter, My Father, Friends, Loved ones, Myself, and Everyone I don’t know… That have or will develop potentially life threatening Asthma and Allergies.
My Daughter and Father are survivors. We were fortunate… So Please Help Me- Support This organization in an effort to fund research, provide education, training, and help to families in need! They are here for all the right reasons. Help me make my run successful!
Although each year a new set of challenges to overcome: Torn Achilles, Anxiety, Financial obstacles, Torn Gastroc, Car troubles, Depression, Or.. Exercise induced Asthma…I Will always make it there because..
“ I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples “ - Mother Teresa
