This August, I'm running the Falmouth Road Race in support of the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE), an organization that means a great deal to me both personally and professionally.

As a social worker, I've walked alongside many young people navigating the foster care system - one child in particular has stayed with me. After being removed from his biological family due to significant neglect, he spent years in a residential treatment facility, struggling with the deep impact of trauma and the sense that he might never have a family to call his own. His world changed when he attended a MARE adoption party - an event where youth and prospective families have the chance to meet in a supportive, joyful setting. That day, he met the people who would become his forever family. I'll never forget the transformation that followed. With stability, love, and support, he began to heal. MARE made that connection possible.

MARE's mission is to find permanent, loving families for children and teens in foster care - many of whom have experienced profound loss and instability. Their work is critical, and I'm proud to run in support of their efforts to ensure that every child has the chance to belong, to heal, and to thrive.
