My Story…

Empower Kids to Bloom 🌱

Many people I love have experienced the unimaginable—losing a parent or a spouse far too soon. And each time, I’ve found myself wondering: What can I possibly do to help?

In the immediate aftermath, people (including myself) show up with meals, toys, and flowers — all beautiful, tangible acts of love and support. But after the casseroles are gone and the routines shift, the real work begins. The emotional weight, the day-to-day challenges, the questions children or guardians don’t know how to ask... all of it remains. That’s when families need more than comfort. They need community.

That’s why I’m running the Falmouth Road Race in support of Empower, a remarkable organization founded in Massachusetts that helps kids, teens, and young adults who’ve lost a parent begin to heal. Through mentorship, peer support, and meaningful programming, Empower has created a community where kids can process their grief, feel seen and heard, and steadily grow through their grief.

I’ve seen firsthand how connection and support can help anyone, old or young, thrive through life's biggest, hardest moments—not just survive them.

This race is my way of showing up—not just with a bag of groceries, a toy, or a dish, but with action and purpose.

If you’re able to support my run, every dollar will go directly to Empower and help fund programs at no cost to families. Join me in helping kids bloom again, no matter what they’ve been through.

With love and gratitude,

Leah

Description

Join me in supporting Empower by helping me raise money as I take on the 2025 Falmouth Road Race!

Empower is an international nonprofit with a very specific mission — to empower, support, and connect children and young adults (up through age 24) who have experienced the loss of a parent. Empower provides events that remind children they are not alone in their grief, and a unique one-on-one mentor program with positive role models from the community who help teach, “loss is survivable.”

Cara was nine years old when her mother Kit died of breast cancer and formed Empower as a grassroots movement out of the gratitude she had for all the layers of support her family received growing up. Empower operates with a lean staff and thousands of volunteers from across the globe and all programs remain at no charge to the family.  For more information, or to become a Mentor or enroll a child, please visit www.weareempower.org
