My Story…
In June of 2021 a week before her 7th birthday, my daughter Arielle (or as her friends call her, Ari) was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It was a day that changed our lives forever and a day I will never forget. Arielle is an amazing kid who is about to turn 11 and finishing up her last year in elementary school. She loves spending time with friends, doing make-up, having sleepovers, playing field hockey & softball, dancing, going to overnight camp, getting Starbucks and so much more. But what you don't know is that T1D is a constant 24/7 autoimmune disease that gives Arielle no days off. Arielle might look like she lives a normal life on the outside but her day to day life isn't like any of her peers, it's constant carb counting, blood sugar highs, blood sugar lows, device changes, pricks, tears and so much more. This August I'm running the Falmouth Road Race with team Breakthrough T1D for Arielle because with T1D there is no cure but there is hope. Arielle is the strongest, bravest, most resilient kid I know and I'm beyond proud to be her mom. This ones for you Ari!
Description
Welcome to my personal Breakthrough T1D fundraising page!
I have joined Breakthrough T1D to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help Breakthrough T1D fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
Breakthrough T1D is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar Breakthrough T1D is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
The challenge I have set for myself — to raise money for Breakthrough T1D and to race — is modest compared to the daily challenges of life with T1D, which involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections to manage the disease.
Please support me and donate to my fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to Breakthrough T1D as generously as possible today?
Thank you for your support!
