My Story…
Nine years ago, my parents walked into their first Learn to Cope meeting. At the time, they were searching for guidance, strength, and hope as they navigated the uncertainty of my sister Katie’s struggle with substance use disorder.
That weekly meeting—held in a small hospital chapel in Cambridge, MA—quickly became a lifeline. It was a safe, supportive space where they could connect with others who truly understood what they were going through. Through shared stories, honest advice, and the quiet strength of its members, they realized something incredibly powerful: that they weren’t alone.
This May, our family celebrated Katie’s sixth year in recovery. And to this day, my parents still attend Learn to Cope meetings every week—sometimes even facilitating them—offering the same hope and guidance they once so desperately needed. Learn to Cope didn’t just support my parents. It supported Katie and me too—by giving our family the tools, understanding, and hope we all needed to begin healing.
This August, I’m running the Falmouth Road Race in support of Learn to Cope—not only to honor the journey our family has been on, but to help ensure other families can find the same strength and support we did.
Thank you for supporting me and this incredible organization that continues to help families heal.
