Welcome to my 2025 ASICS Falmouth Road Race Page!
Hello Everyone!
This year, I’m honored to be running the 2025 ASICS Falmouth Road Race as a member of the National Brain Tumor Society’s Gray Nation Endurance Team and in memory of my father, Harry Currier.
In November 2016, I received a phone call from my mother at the school I work at to meet my parents at the hospital. My father had had a feeling of numbness in his foot that the doctors hadn't been able to figure out. When I walked in the room and saw my Dad- my strong, funny, tough Dad- he looked so scared. He told me they found a tumor in his brain. I told him that there were all sorts of tumors, many benign, and we would take this one step at a time. Over the next few weeks, we would find out that he would need surgery, his left side would become completely paralyzed as the tumor was on his motor cortex, and he would be diagnosed with Glioblastoma- an aggressive, stage 4 cancer. He needed 24-hour care. He went from hiking with me a couple of months prior, to being dependent on someone to help him shower and use the bathroom. He was depressed and anxious. We had so much left we wanted to do. We lost him 2 years later.
The cost of cancer on our hearts, our health, financially...was devastating. GBM is heartbreaking for all involved: patients, family, caregivers, and friends. Research is significantly underfunded- and recently lost all of its federal funding. I wanted to funnel my feelings and passion into action.
Over the years, I have looked into ways to support brain tumor research and awareness and found the National Brain Tumor Society. I am thankful for their organization, and saw they were a partner in this race. Running is very challenging for me. I am super slow and have always stuck to 5ks. I've never run 7 miles, but I know I can! And, I know many people would give anything to be able to....so 7 miles for the 7 years without my father... Let's GO!
