My Story…

Thank you for reading my donation story!

This year I will be fundraising with a goal of $2,000. All donations will be going towards awareness towards suicide prevention to prevent suicide and support those impacted by suicide in our community.

About me:

If you don’t know me, my name is Jack Bonazzoli, I am a 23 years old and am from Clinton, Massachusetts. I have recently just graduated college from Plymouth state and currently pursue a career working as an EMT around central mass.

Why I run:

If you did not know the name Chad Hinkley, he was a loved family member, friend, athlete, student, and much more to those close to him. Last year Chad had passed away tragically to suicide. All those who knew Chad, knew him for his courage on the sports field, commitment to friendship, kindness, and sense of humor. When Chad saw you fall, he would pick you up. If someone gave you trouble, he would go out of his way to make sure it was his problem as well. When I met Chad I had recently moved schools. I had never thought I would be able to make friends again, I was soon greeted by another boy who had then convinced me to play football with him. From that day I had no clue that I had met the my greatest friend, teammate, and brother. On the field, Chad had 2 state championship appearances, winning his junior year. A leading tackler despite his size, Chad was the toughest kid on the feild. Injuries did not bother Chad if his brothers were on the feild and that was loved by fans, friends, and family. His care for others was never un-noticed.

My time with Chad was spent with activities like fishing, gaming, listening to country music, going to Salisbury beach, sitting by fires, and the list goes on…all spent with smiles laughs cry’s and everything in between.

Endless emotion, story, and character could be mentioned about the legend of Chad Hinckley. His impact on others will not be forgotten. Running in his name is beyond the least I can do to Honor him as well as raise awareness to prevent others from going through the same struggles. No individual, family, friend, classmate, or teammate should have to feel the way one does to feel so unwanted, angry, upset without a solution. On average, every 11 minutes an individual takes Their life in this country. Suicide has been a growing issue and sadly increases every year. It is important to raise awareness for this cause to let people know there is solution and help although it may feel there is not. Running for Chad Hinckley will help raise awareness to prevent and spread awareness. Thank you to all who have read this story and consider contributing to my cause!

Description

The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands is a nonprofit organization that provides support to people experiencing crises. Our mission is suicide prevention: we are dedicated to helping people contemplating suicide or personally affected by suicide.

In 2022 (the most recent year for which data is available), there were 626 deaths by suicide in Massachusetts (a rate of 8.9 per 100,000). That same year, Barnstable County had the second highest suicide rate in Massachusetts (17.5/100,000).

For those who may be struggling, grieving, or wanting to understand how to better support those in their lives, we have programs to help.

Crisis Lines are available 24/7 to anyone looking for support. There is no reason too great or too small to call – whatever the reason, we’re here to listen. The lines are free, anonymous and confidential. Reach us at 508-548-8900 or dial 988.

Community Education programs provide free materials for tabling events and host educational presentations and trainings to help community members learn about suicide prevention strategies.

Grief Services programs are available for those who have experienced the death of someone close to them by suicide. These resources help to provide loss survivors with various avenues for connection in ways and at times that are right for them.

Outreach Services programs provide direct support to specific at-risk populations. Currently, our Senior Outreach program is available to individuals who are 55 years or older, allowing an opportunity to receive weekly phone personal phone support from a matched volunteer.

Your support of Team Samaritans will help us continue to provide these lifesaving programs and services to those who reach out for help.
