My name is Delaney Sieber and I am originally from Anoka, Minnesota. I moved to Boston in 2019 to pursue my Masters in Library Science and Masters in History at Simmons University. As a person living with autism, I am reminded every day that even though I don't always feel comfortable around others, I can find people who support and care about me. I share this life alongside my brother, Spencer, who also has Autism. I hope that he can find people who support his goals and help him grow as a I have.
I started running in 2021 and I am fortunate enough to have previously run as a member of Dougie's Team for my first Boston Marathon this past April. I was successful in my first Boston marathon with help from the amazing staff and volunteers of Dougie's Team. I am proud to continue running as member of their team and look forward to meeting new friends along the way. They make me feel included and always are there to cheer me on. Former NFL Quarterback, Doug Flutie, and his wife Laurie started the Doug Flutie, Jr. Flutie Foundation for Autism in 1998 after their son, Dougie, was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Their personal experience of raising a son on the autism spectrum inspired them to help others on an equally long and challenging journey. Over its 26-year history, the Flutie Foundation has distributed over $14 million to schools and organizations that provide clinical therapies, respite services, recreational programs, social skills training, job supports and more for people affected by autism.
The Flutie Foundation also provides education technology tools, adaptive camp scholarships, safety equipment, and direct family support through its special programs. The Flutie Foundation’s newest initiative, Flutie Spectrum Enterprises, will help create businesses to employ adults with autism.
