I'm running the 2025 Falmouth Road Race with Team End ALZ to raise money for Alzheimer's research.
My grandmother—Gran, or Molly, as many knew her—passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2022 after living with the disease for five years. In her final year, she moved into a memory care assisted living facility.
Gran was a mother of six, a grandmother of ten, a great-grandmother of four, and, above all else, a proud Brit. She played a huge role in my life—showing up for every school and sports event, picking me up when I was sick so we could watch The Price is Right together, and teaching me what it means to be stubborn (our birthdays were just two days apart).
Alzheimer’s meant we lost parts of Gran before she physically left us. She still had a sparkle in her eye during our visits, especially when I teased her or when she shamelessly flirted with my husband, Tim. But even those glimpses faded as the disease progressed. Toward the end, she didn’t always recognize me.
Team End ALZ is raising money to ensure fewer families experience this kind of loss before the final goodbye. I’m running with Tim and my sister Vic in memory of Gran—and in hopes of a future without Alzheimer’s.
