My Story…
My great-grandfather, Philip Armstrong, came to work in a lab at the MBL for the summer for the first time in 1925. My great-grandparents, Phil and Loudie, met in a lab at the MBL, and brought my grandfather and great uncle nearly every summer of their childhoods. Phil was the Director of the MBL for almost 20 years, and one of his achievements was the summer cottages for researchers and their families, making it possible for scientists to come to Woods Hole for the summer. My grandfather, Sam, worked for the MBL as a teenager, collecting specimens for researchers off the coast of Woods Hole. My uncles also worked at MBL, driving the MBL shuttle, diving for specimens, and crewing on the Gemma. MBL is very special to my family, and this year we are celebrating 100 years of coming to Woods Hole and getting to experience the scientific community that MBL fosters. Right now scientific research needs our support more than ever. Please consider donating to MBL.
