Hello Friends!
Wishing all of you a healthy, peaceful summer of fun and family. In 2025, Team Alice Coakley, consisting of me, Billy Coakley, and Mary Lou Coakley, will again be running the Falmouth Road Race to raise needed funds to support valued research to help mitigate, and one day help find a cure, for Alzheimer's disease.
Why do we run?
We run in memory of my mother and Billy's/Mary Lou's grandmother Alice Coakley. Alice confronted the many challenges of Alzheimer's that she encountered the last 10 years of her wonderful life with grace and dignity. Alice was never a complainer and surmounted every obstacle she faced with a "just-do-it" mentality (long before Nike trade-marked that slogan). Depsite her memory loss and eventual physical decline, Alice never lost her amazing empathy, incredible heart, and warm disposition.
When you visited Alice, she lit up the room with her welcoming smile! She made you feel like you had made her day, but, in reality, she had made your day. You always felt better after a visit, a a laugh, and a tight squeeze/hug from Alice!
It is hard to believe it's been over 5 years since Alice moved on to heaven to rejoin her beloved husband Paul. We still miss her every day and remember so fondly the many lessons she taught us in her own quiet, patient, but steadfast manner. She was was one of a kind and the best mother, grandmother, friend, and role model!
What can you do?
We are looking for donations of any amount and appreciate the many other competing asks out there to other great causes (good luck to all the PMC riders this weekend!).
Times are tough, federal funds are disappearing to fund critical diseases from cancer to Alzheimer's. Everyone is looking for donations to help fund the doctors, scientists, and researchers who work every day to find a cure. Every incremental dollar helps!
