Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) – a registered charity since 1988 – operates in a Joint Operating Agreement with the Vancouver Park Board with the aims of education, conservation and outreach programs. As the primary provider of land-based education interpretive services in Stanley Park, SPES’s role in the stewardship of Stanley Park is undertaken through a combination of:

  • Education
  • Conservation action
  • Research

SPES also advises the Park Board on conservation issues within the Park with an emphasis on wildlife, habitat and Species at Risk. The Park Board provides facilities including the Stanley Park Nature House on Lost Lagoon, the 2nd floor Dining Pavilion offices, and the Earthen Architecture Cob Popcorn Stand in the Miniature Train Plaza.

Mission: Our Mission is education, conservation, and research rooted in Stanley Park.

Vision: Our Vision is of generations inspired by nature within and beyond Stanley Park.

Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) is rooted in the community. For over three decades, SPES has used interpretive programming and community initiatives to bring about positive change and awareness of Stanley Park as a precious urban oasis, and to promote its ecological well-being.

School, Public and Conservation Programs engage participants with hands-on science and interpretive activities empowering stewardship in the fragile balance of the Stanley Park urban ecosystem. By becoming a donor you become a partner in this important work.

Every year, SPES:

  • Offers free or low-cost interactive public programs that give thousands of children and adults an opportunity to discover more about the natural wonders of an urban wildlife oasis
  • Connects over 12,000 school students with nature through our dynamic school programs
  • Engages community volunteers and citizen scientists in the stewardship of Stanley Park through activities including monitoring species and ecosystems at risk and restoring habitat

We appreciate the support of our runners and donors which helps make our work for ecosystems within and beyond Stanley Park possible.
