My Story…
A study of National Institute of Health (NIH) funding, found that gynecological cancers (ovarian, cervical, uterine) ranked 10th, 12th, and 14th in funding relative to years of life lost, whereas prostate cancer was ranked 1st. This isn’t the fault of any one person or body but it does mean that women’s cancer studies are disproportionately underfunded in relation to their impact, prevalence or ratio to lives lost. The Magee-Women’s Research Institute & Foundation is focused on helping bring funding to these under-financed cancer studies.
The moral of this story is….F*** Cancer.
This year, I am running the Dick’s Sporting Good Pittsburgh Marathon to support the goal and mission of the Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation by raising funds for women-focused cancer research.
