Help Deanna raise money

I am running the Pittsburgh half-marathon and I am asking for help raising money for The Homeless Children's Education Fund. Help me bridge educational gaps that homeless students experience. 

There are over 1 million homeless students across the nation. Every year in the state of Pennsylvania, more than 50,000 children are identified as homeless. In Allegheny County alone, there are currently 3,627 students who identify as homeless. 

The Homeless Children's Education Fund (HCEF) is the only non-profit in the  Pittsburgh region whose sole focus is on the educational needs of students who are currently experiencing homelessness. Homelessness affects students more than anyone could imagine. One episode of homelessness makes a child 87% more likely to drop out of high school. Students without a high school diploma or even a GED are over 300% more likely to experience homelessness as an adult.  Even if these students do not drop out, they fall behind their housed peers - only 13% read at their grade level, and only 11% perform at grade level for math. Students of color and students with disabilities are more likely to be disproportionately affected by homelessness and the educational gaps that come with it. 

Donating to HCEF can help students from kindergarten to age 24 by allowing them to provide support and compassion. HCEF partners with schools, shelters, and organizations in the area to address barriers, nurture potential, and personal success to make sure these students can rise above homelessness.
