Why I support The Pittsburgh Project

Hey everyone! My name is Mackenzi Salinas-Trejo, and I’m a senior at Susquehanna University graduating this spring with a degree in Luxury Brand Marketing & Management. On May 3rd, I’ll be running The Pittsburgh Half Marathon to raise money for The Pittsburgh Project!

Last summer I began running, inspired by family and friends who had completed races before me. Signing up was scary but exciting and I knew if I was going to push myself to run 13.1 miles, I wanted it to be for something bigger than myself.

I chose The Pittsburgh Project because service and access to opportunity have truly shaped my life. I attended Logos Academy from kindergarten through 12th grade, a faith-based school committed to serving students from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds. Through tuition assistance and the generosity of donors, I received an education that might not have otherwise been accessible to me. Education is power, and access to it can change someone’s life. Because others invested in me, I’ve been able to earn my college degree and pursue meaningful opportunities.

Running this race feels like a small way to give back to a community that reflects the same values I was raised with; faith, respect, leadership, and serving others. Thank you so much for supporting me as I take on my first half marathon!

Description

The Pittsburgh Project is a faith-based organization with the mission to share hope, empower youth and build community. We pursue this by offering educationally enriching after school and summer day camp programming for students in grades K-12.  Join us in walking/running for the youth and families of the North Side! Every dollar fuels a step towards a better future for our city!
