My Story…

My name is Madison Kessler, and I am proud to be running the Pittsburgh Half Marathon for the second year in a row. This year, I am honored to dedicate my race to raising funds for Children’s Hospital.

At 14 years old, I was diagnosed with epilepsy and spent years in and out of Children’s Hospital. There were many moments when I felt discouraged and uncertain about what my future would look like. At times, I wasn’t able to participate in the activities I loved, and I never imagined that one day I would be strong enough to run a half marathon.

Today, I am incredibly grateful to share that I have been seizure-free for two years. Being able to train for and complete this race is something I once thought was impossible. Running this half marathon is not only a personal milestone, but also a way for me to give back to the hospital that played such a significant role in my journey.

I want every child currently facing medical challenges to know that even when the road feels long and difficult, there is hope. You are stronger than you think, and you can get through it.

I am working to raise $500 for Children’s Hospital, and I would be so grateful for your support. Any donation, big or small, will help provide care, resources, and hope to children and families who need it most.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me and for helping make a difference.

Description

As part of Team Children's, my participation in the 2026 Pittsburgh Marathon supports UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation.

Funds support the patients and families served by UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Last year UPMC Children's Hospital had over 1 million patient visits and many of the programs, initiatives, and resources that make UPMC Children’s so special are funded by philanthropic gifts. Things like distraction therapy which provides patients something else to focus on during their medical procedures, the Child Life Department which provides many activities to create a sense of normalcy for hospitalized children, and the Free Care Fund which covers the cost of medical care for those that cannot afford it. These areas are not covered by insurance, yet are critically important to helping families face the many challenges that accompany a child’s treatment.

Please consider donating to support the patient champions at UPMC Children's! You can donate directly on this page or send a check to the address below and make a note that you are sponsoring my efforts.
