My Story…

This is deeply personal to me.

It’s for Janet Detterline, whose strength, kindness, and unconditional love meant everything to our family.

For Charles Detterline, who cared deeply for his family and community and showed incredible strength.

For Roxy and Merle Reininger, the life of the party—always ready for a game of cards and a good time.

For Silvia Claar, who meant everything to so many and is deeply loved and missed.

For C. Elmer Dilling, a lifelong farmer who cherished time hunting with his grandchildren.

For Bonnie Dilling, a devoted healthcare worker who loved her family, especially her grandson.

For Janet Dilling, who loved her grandchildren with all she had.

For Judy Claar, a dedicated member of the medical field and an active horsewoman.

For Barbara Ayala, a card game fiend and incredible host, loved immensely by her family.

For Dee Miller, whose outgoing spirit and love for her grandchildren brought so much joy.

It’s also for the fighters and survivors.

For Paul Ayala, an 11-year survivor, a storyteller, and still young at heart at 94.

For Daniel Pizzuto, an 11-year survivor and hardworking man.

For Dan Pizzuto, a 10-year survivor, a handyman, and a loving father and husband.

For Charlotte Holsinger, thriving for 19 years and dedicating her life to her family and faith.

And for Jennifer Welsh, who is courageously facing a recent diagnosis with strength for her children and husband.

I’m running for all of them—for those we’ve lost, for those still fighting, and for every family that knows what this journey feels like.

Why I Am Participating in the Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend to Support the American Cancer Society

For the first time in history, the American Cancer Society's mission is at risk - including their ability to fund cancer research. The American Cancer Society needs to be here to help patients face cancer with comprehensive support, but they need our help to be able to do so. Every dollar will truly make a difference right now.

Taking part in this event gives me the chance to make a difference and honor those touched by cancer by raising funds for groundbreaking research and services for people dealing with cancer. I'm also participating to inspire hope for those facing the disease and raising money for the American Cancer Society's event to help save lives from cancer.  I hope you'll consider signing up too.

Funds raised support cancer patient programs and groundbreaking research that can help save lives. This event also celebrates over 15.5 million cancer survivors nationwide. 15.5 MILLION. That's huge. That's why I'd love your support. Will you join me? And if you can't would you be so kind as to make a donation?

DetermiNation is the American Cancer Society’s event endurance program, spanning a variety of sports including cycling, running, hiking, yoga, and more.  The collective efforts of the dedicated athletes who use their fortitude to help raise funds to take down cancer are nothing short of amazing.
