WHO ARE THE PRAIRIE DRAGON PADDLERS?
Fun, supportive, courageous, powerful, caring, spirited, thriving breast cancer survivors in the Champaign-Urbana area.
We are friends, full-time employees, retirees, stay-at-home moms, students, grandmothers, long-time survivors and newly diagnosed.
Paddle with us and watch your overall fitness and well-being improve. Studies show that exercise can reduce the risk of recurrence of cancer and lymphedema. Always consult your doctor.
Prairie Dragon Paddlers carries the distinction of being the first breast cancer survivor team in Illinois
WHAT WE DO TO FULFILL OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
Health & Wellness: Empowerment of breast cancer survivors; Wellness seminars; Shared experiences; Dragon boating
Outreach: Educational speaker panels; Comfort kits for those newly diagnosed; Community events; Volunteer Opportunities; inclusion of survivors' family network.
Research: Established first named research fund at the Cancer Center at Illinois; Opportunities to inform breast cancer research
