My Story…
I’m reaching out today with a full heart as I prepare to participate in the Lakeside Laps Walk for Brain Injury Awareness on June 6, 2026.
A decade later and a fall causing multiple brain bleeds, many symptoms are still part of my daily life including headaches, dizziness, mental and physical fatigue, sensitivity to noise and light, a nervous system that often feels on overload and short-term memory loss.
This journey has not been easy, linear, or predictable. Some days require more patience, grace, and resilience than others. But one thing has never changed......I will never surrender in my recovery journey!
Healing looks different than I once imagined, but strength has shown up in ways I never expected. I continue to listen to my body, honour my limits and celebrate every victory, no matter how small.
I am deeply grateful to those who have continuously had my back. Your love, understanding, patience, and support have carried me through moments when I couldn’t carry myself. You know who you are, and I couldn’t do this without you.
This year, I’m walking not only for myself, but for all those living with brain injuries—many of whom face similar invisible challenges every single day. I’m also walking in support of the Brain Injury Association Waterloo Wellington, whose programs, advocacy, and community make such a meaningful difference for survivors like me.
BIG NEWS!!!! There’s also an exciting way to give and have a chance to win!
For every $100 you donate, you will receive one raffle ticket for a chance to win a round trip flight for two guests to any regularly scheduled and marketed West Jet destination (no cash value; taxes, fees, and surcharges not included; blackout dates and restrictions apply).
The more you give, the more chances you have to win!
(For example: donate $200 = 2 tickets, $300 = 3 tickets, and so on.)
As an added bonus, the runner/walker associated with the winning donor will receive a $250 gift card.
If you feel called to support me, I would be incredibly grateful for a donation of any size. Every contribution helps provide resources, hope, and connection to those navigating life after brain injury.
Thank you for being part of my journey.
With gratitude,
Donna
