My Story…
May 2026, will be the third year of our Strong Like Sloane run team. Over the past two years, our community has raised more than $286,000 to support kids facing cancer, and I’m so grateful for every single person who has stood with us.
This year, donations support the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation and its work with the University of Calgary to advance precision oncology research for pediatric cancer. Precision oncology uses genetic testing to understand a child’s unique tumor and match them with targeted treatments — moving beyond one-size-fits-all care to give kids better options.
One of the programs we’re funding is PROFYLE (PRecision Oncology For Young peopLE), a pan-Canadian initiative that gives children and young adults who are out of conventional treatment options another chance. When Sloane relapsed in April 2025, she had access to PROFYLE testing to help determine whether her tumor might be eligible for clinical trials. That access mattered — and every child deserves it.
Each test costs about $14,000, and 10–12 children in Alberta need this testing each year. My hope for 2026 is to help fully fund this work so cost is never the barrier.
Thank you for supporting this run, this research, and kids like Sloane. Every step is for hope.
