My Story…
I'm fundraising for an often misunderstood and underfunded form of cancer, in memory of my father Jim Ozon, who passed last year rapidly following a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. Details about pancreatic cancer can be found here- https://www.pancreaticcancernorthamerica.ca/
Symptoms of pancreatic cancer can be found here- https://cancer.ca/en/cancer-information/cancer-types/pancreatic/signs-and-symptoms
There can be a strong genetic component to pancreatic cancer, so if anyone you are related to has been diagnosed with or passed from pancreatic cancer, please consider speaking to your healthcare team about genetic testing.
Aside from a pancreatic cancer diagnosis, having a genetic marker for the BRCA2 gene can also cause a significant increase in the risk of developing pancreatic cancer, so please also consider seeking information regarding genetic testing if you or a family member has been noted as having the BRCA2 marker.
Both men and women can carry the genetic marker for BRCA2.
Some details outlining this can be found here- https://blog.dana-farber.org/insight/2018/11/brca2-pancreatic-cancer-whats-connection/
My father was a generous man who chose to spend his time and energy trying to help others, and he recognized that even seemingly smaller efforts can have a big impact. In that same spirit, I hope to attempt to continue this mentality in his name, and through donations and sharing of information, I hope to help towards the cause of empowering anyone and their families going through a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
