My Story…
This May, I’m running the 10K at the Calgary Marathon in honour of my dad and in support of Alzheimer’s Calgary. My dad passed away from Alzheimer’s on December 30. Watching someone you love change because of this disease is heartbreaking. It doesn’t just take memories — it slowly takes pieces of the person you knew, and it affects the whole family.
My dad was a strong, blunt, no-nonsense old farmer who shaped who I am today. Alzheimer’s took more from him than any of us ever could have imagined. This run is my way of turning grief into something meaningful. Every step is for my dad, and for the families who are walking this road right now — exhausted, scared, and doing their best.
Funds raised go to Alzheimer’s Calgary, which provides support, education, and resources for people living with dementia and the loved ones who care for them. If you’re able to donate, thank you. If you can’t, even sharing this helps. This one’s for my dad — and for everyone who deserves support on this journey.
