My Story…
I’m 70, and I want to refresh and push myself a bit more. Be more active in this decade and bring my heart rate into a higher zone (to help keep my doctors happy). I think I sat around too much in my 60’s. I’m comfortable walking, but doing this run will be a first for me.
I had a heart attack in 2018 and was so very fortunate to have received a quick response to my situation - results being that I have a stent in my heart. Calgary’s Total Cardiology Rehabilitation program was a tremendous help to understand the benefits of physical activity to overall health and wellbeing. They were instrumental in helping me recover.
My goal is to improve my overall health and wellbeing, encourage others to increase their personal activity, and hopefully raise a few dollars for the Heart & Stoke Foundation of Canada. I’m thinking of my dad, who died from a heart attack in his 80th year, and his dad, my grandfather, who died from a heart attack when he was 70. My other grandfather… 70, same thing. I think of my brother-in-law who passed from a heart event in his 50’s. These are in my immediate circle, there are so many more men and women with similar stories who could benefit from the ever improving procedures to recover from heart events! … and generating a few dollars will help that along …. to borrow a phrase from CKUA Radio when they fundraise: “ It’s not how much, it’s how many. ” Any amount will help move us along…
It’s ALSO never too late to get yourself moving!
