My Story…

Why I’m running in Washington, DC – and why I’d love you to be part of it

In April, I’ll be in Washington, DC following an invitation for the Climate Tech Connect conference, meeting inspiring people who work every day on climate adaptation, resilience, and the future we leave behind.

While I’m there, I’ll also be standing at the start line of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Run.
10 miles. (-->UPDATE: Another injury, this time my other ankle, gave me a push back. Now 5 miles will be my new strecht goal. Another come back needed).
And this run is far more than just another race for me.

I first heard about the Cherry Blossom Run through my friend Matthew, I met 16 years ago on a charity Kilimanjaro climb. Different continent, different cause – but the same idea: use movement, community, and privilege to create impact. Somehow, the circle closes in DC.

This will be my longest run since a major surgery in 2025.
Coming back wasn’t easy. Training with a still-unstable foot, rebuilding trust in my body, daring to go long again – every kilometer feels earned. I don’t take the ability to run for granted anymore.

I’m also deeply grateful:
Grateful that I can run again:

The Medical Team:
1. Huge thanks to Dr. Breuer (Florence-Nightinggale Hospital, Dusseldorf, Germany), who put my ankle back together with an artificial ligament and two screws. Before the surgery, it was broken, instable and barely held together by old scar tissue.
2. Big thanks to my physio, Tibor Strauch (Rheydt, Germany), who made my foot mobile and strong again — step by step. This run is as much his work as mine. Both had to stop me from training too early and too hard while everything was still healing.

3. Reha Team West is supporting me with stabilizing ankle equipment, that will hopefully prevent further injuries.

My home and network:
And of course  I am grateful for my family, my friends, and an entrepreneurial network that supports my work.
And grateful that my professional life allows me to engage with people who care deeply about shaping a more resilient future.

So this time, I want to give something back.

I’m fundraising for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which support 170 children’s hospitals and help millions of kids each year through life-saving treatments, research, medical equipment, and family support. Children don’t choose their challenges – but they deserve every possible chance.

Recently, I read the fascinating book Moral Ambition. One idea stuck with me: If we truly want change, we need more than concern – we need collective commitment.

This run is my personal commitment.

I’ve set myself an ambitious but realistic goal: $1,000 by March 31st.
Not because I expect any single person to carry it – but because, together, we can.

If $20, $30, or $50 feels right for you, that’s perfect.
If you can give more, amazing.
My company DSR & Partners - The Climate Adaptation Advisory starts with $100
If you simply want to support the idea of combining recovery, movement, and impact – that already means a lot.

I’m inviting you to run with me in spirit and support children’s health.

Support my run.
Let’s make this count – together.

Thank you for being part of my circle.

Description

I'm fundraising $500 for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals to run the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Run, and need your support!

Children's Miracle Network Hospitals raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals that support the health of 12 million kids each year across the U.S. and Canada. Donations go to local hospitals to fund critical life-saving treatments and healthcare services, along with innovative research, vital pediatric medical equipment, child life services that put kids’ and families’ minds at ease during difficult hospital stays and financial assistance for families who could not otherwise afford these health services. When we improve the health of all children and allow them the opportunity to reach their full potential, we also improve our communities for years to come.

Together, we can change kids’ health. Together, we can change the future.
