The Vietnam International Half Marathon (VIHM) is an official race under the competition system of the Vietnam Athletics Federation (VAF), co-organized by the Vietnam Athletics Federation and the People's Committee of Hanoi. It is the only international half marathon licensed and supervised by the Asian Athletics Association. Held every year on January 1st, VIHM takes runners through the historical landmarks and scenic routes of Hanoi, Vietnam's capital. As part of Hanoi's New Year series of sports, cultural, and artistic events, VIHM carries the mission of promoting the running movement in Vietnam and Asia while delivering a powerful message of welcoming the new year through health and the spirit of pushing beyond limits.
Now in its 4th edition, the Vietnam International Half Marathon 2026 has become a cherished destination for runners to celebrate the New Year with friends and loved ones. The race starts and finishes at Thuyen Quang Lake, Hanoi, offering distances of 21km, 10km, 5km, and a Sports Family category. This year, the Organizing Committee expects to welcome 7,000 runners.
Athletic excellence — the defining feature of VIHM — remains a top priority. The race brings together elite athletes from national teams representing various countries across Asia and Southeast Asia, alongside top amateur runners from Vietnam and abroad.
The event is supervised by international race inspectors appointed by the Asian Athletics Association, officiated by national-level athletics referees, and all race distances (5km – 10km – 21.1km) are course-certified by WA- AIMS grade A measurers, ensuring all results are globally recognized.
In particular, the 21km race — which sold out rapidly last season — will receive special attention this year to ensure the best possible experience for runners. The Organizing Committee hopes that this will help athletes achieve breakthrough personal records. It’s important to note that results achieved at VIHM are officially recognized by the Vietnam Athletics Federation and may be used as a qualifying basis for participation in continental and international competitions, thereby creating opportunities for amateur runners to advance professionally.
Let’s welcome New Year 2026 with excitement and unforgettable strides at the Vietnam International Half Marathon 2026.
