My Story…
Running for Vivie...
On November 10, 2013, my beautiful niece, Vivienne Claire Burgess, was born. Vivie was a joyful little girl who brought smiles, laughter, and happiness to everyone who knew her. She loved books, spending time with her big sister, Elianna, and playing with her friends at school.
Just two days after celebrating her third birthday, our family’s world changed forever. On November 12, 2016, Vivie went to bed after a fun Saturday celebrating her birthday. About a half hour later, her mom went in to give her one last goodnight kiss and found her unresponsive and not breathing.
Despite frantic efforts to save her and the incredible work of EMS and the medical team at Children’s Hospital, there was nothing more that could be done. Vivie was taken off life support the following day as her family held her close. Her cause of death remains unknown and was ultimately classified as Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC).
Losing Vivie left an unimaginable hole in our family. My goal is to help bring awareness to this devastating and still little-understood cause of childhood death.
This year, I am running the Twin Cities 10 Mile in Vivie’s memory and to support SUDC. Every mile I run is a reminder of the joy Vivie brought into our lives and of the importance of helping other families who experience an unimaginable loss.
I am running for Vivie and for the families who are searching for answers. And for hope.
If you are able, I would be incredibly grateful for your support through a donation to the SUDC Foundation.
Thank you for helping me run with purpose and keep Vivie’s memory shining bright.
