My Story…
In anticipation of turning 40 this year, I wanted to enter this next stage of life with a renewed focus on health and wellness. With that goal in mind, I signed up for a rugged mountain race in Montana to help keep me focused, accountable, and on track. As part of a holistic health lens, I wanted this training season and the race itself to be a more enjoyable and fulfilling experience, more than just completing a race. Little did I know, this completely changed my whole experience, expanding my perspective to find more joy and appreciation for the process, my life, and the people in it.
After completing this race a few weeks ago, I was feeling more motivation and desire to find other opportunities to experience similar fulfillment. I am not a natural long distance runner, but knew the TC marathon would be a perfect opportunity, and hoping my elevation-based trail training this year would be sufficient to complete the marathon. Knowing the race was full, with the bib transfer option closed two weeks prior to race day, I learned about the charity participant option, where you can raise money for a specific charity enabling an opportunity to run for their team and their cause. Physically, this might be biting off more than I can chew, but this seemed like the perfect opportunity I was seeking. Thus, here we are, a week away from race day with a $1,000 fundraising goal for an incredible cause: Folds of Honor- an organization funding scholarships for the spouses and dependents of fallen and disabled veterans and first responders. This is an important cause that I want to support personally in addition to the other ways of providing support to this population in my professional role.
