My Triathlon Journey

Swimming, Biking, and Running for a Minneapolis Where Everyone Belongs

This August, I’m diving into Lake Nokomis for the YWCA Women’s Triathlon, competing to raise money for a mission that has never been more urgent. In its 18th year, it's the largest women's triathlon in the US. And this year feels different. In the wake of the heart-wrenching senseless deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in a storm of federally-sponsored racism that continues in and out of MN, there is a renewed sense of purpose and conviction. While I'll be training with some defiant Bruce Springsteen in my earbuds, I'll be racing in the spirit of resistance, in honor of those who are suffering, those whose lives have been stolen, and in solidarity with all of those who haven't stopped fighting for justice.

Why your donation matters: The YWCA provides the backbone for Minneapolis’s activism, from early childhood education to racial justice training. They are building the inclusive city everyone deserves.

About me: I'm on team Saturn Returns and together with my dear friend, Mira, we are committing to this event and by so doing reinvigorating our commitment to our whole health. We are a Century Team! That means our ages add up to a minimum of 100! I did a sprint triathlon decades ago, and this will be Mira's first. Training is an outside-the-comfort-zone adventure, and a prolongued experiment in patience and persistence, force and gentleness. Wish us luck! And hey, maybe join us next year!

Description

YWCA Minneapolis hosts one of the largest and best women's races in the country. But they also host:

  • Award-winning Early Childhood Education programs at five centers across the metro;
  • One of the largest offerings of after-school and summer programs in Minnesota;
  • A workforce development program to train and retain the next generation of credentialed Early Childhood educators;
  • A Health and Wellness facility where over 8,000 community members find challenge and connection.

This work is vital, far-reaching, and more crucial now than ever. Can you support my Tri journey and chip in $25, $100, or $500 to power us forward? No amount is too small to make a difference.
