My Story…
Greetings, friends!
On the morning of August 1, more than 600 swimmers will be standing on the beach at Bayfield Point, shading our eyes from the sun rising over the deep blue of the Big Lake, saying a prayer, cherishing a blessing, breathing steady, waiting for the signal to start our swim to Mooniingwanekaaning, the home of the flicker, Madeline Island.
The 2.1 mile Point to La Pointe open water swim is the largest fundraiser for the Bayfield Rec Center. Since 2006, thousands of folks have braved the cold and waves to raise funds for this small but mighty non-profit. The Rec Center offers recreation, youth and adult swimming and sailing classes, fitness equipment, senior exercise and socializing, a weekly youth maker space, and so much more! It's a blessing to have such a resource in our little Bayfield peninsula/Cheq Bay community!
Consider these Rec Center highlights:
*The 25 meter pool is the only such facility within 70 miles. It's a training venue for Fire and EMS Services, The National Park Service, kayak outfitters who keep their staff trained, lifeguarding and rescue readiness.
*The Bay Area Swim Team is the northernmost competitive swim team in Wisconsin. For youth ages 6-18. WoW!
Did I mention this is a fundraiser? It is!
I invite you to support me in supporting this beloved community center and third space!
